Documents

Get reports, decks, and spreadsheets as real files, have Cheqq read the office files you upload, and fix the text in a PDF without remaking it.

Cheqq works with documents in three directions: it writes them as deliverables, it reads the ones you upload, and it shows both in the app.

Documents Cheqq writes

Ask in chat for the deliverable you need — or start from Docs, Slides, or Sheets on the chat home:

  • Documents — reports, briefs, proposals — are pages you write together, with Cheqq writing beside you. Download a Word file to keep writing in, a PDF to print or send (on the document's A4 or Letter page), or Markdown to take it anywhere.
  • Decks are built slide by slide with speaker notes. Present them straight from Cheqq, or download a PowerPoint with editable text, or a PDF.
  • Spreadsheets keep numbers numeric, so they sort and filter correctly in Excel, with header rows frozen and filters already applied.

Each one is an artifact: it keeps every version, takes comments on the exact paragraph or slide you mean, and can be edited, shared, and published from its own page. See Work with artifacts for commenting, editing, presenting, and downloading.

Spreadsheets are an export, collections are where data lives

If you're building data you'll keep working with, Cheqq steers it into a collection — a spreadsheet is the right shape for handing data to someone else, not for managing it.

Documents you write together

A document you start with New document, or one Cheqq writes for you, is a shared page: everyone with access writes on it at the same time, sees who else is there, and comments on the exact words a comment is about. Everything is saved as people type, and the history groups those saves with the names of who wrote them, so any earlier version can be compared or brought back.

Cheqq writes in the same page. Ask for a report and it outlines the sections, then fills them in while you watch, with your words always winning. Ask it on an empty line or about selected words and its draft appears in place, kept apart from the document until you accept it. Hand it a comment and it changes that block and replies in the thread. Each ask is a turn in the document's chat, so you can see what was asked and rewind it there. Rewinding the turn that made a document moves it to Trash, where you can restore it for 30 days, unless someone else has written in it: then it stays, and only Cheqq's writing comes out.

Type @ to mention people, add dates, and link to other documents and files. A link shows only what the reader may open: to anyone else it reads Restricted. Footnotes number themselves, and values from your records, such as a client's name or a total, stay live in the page.

Documents you had before convert the first time they're opened, unless they have a design of their own, such as a Wapp's guide: those keep their look. The earlier layout stays in history, and Use the earlier layout brings it back.

See Write documents together.

Read uploaded documents

Attach a Word document, PowerPoint deck, spreadsheet, or PDF in chat and ask about it — summarize it, pull numbers out of it, or turn a spreadsheet into a collection. Every model can read the contents, including office files stored in a record's attachment fields.

Edit text in an uploaded PDF

Cheqq can change the text in a PDF you uploaded rather than regenerating a Cheqq-branded document that matches nothing about the original. Ask for the correction — "fix the date in the second paragraph" — and it locates the text, replaces it in place, and saves the result as a copy beside the original. Everything it doesn't touch is preserved exactly: layout, images, stamps, and form fields. Replacements wrap and shrink to fit the space the old text occupied.

Editing a PDF is not redaction

The original text still exists underneath the replacement and can be recovered from the file. Cheqq refuses a request to hide sensitive content this way rather than producing a document that looks redacted and isn't. Remove the content at its source instead.

Scanned PDFs (which carry an image rather than text), rotated pages, and encrypted files are refused with the specific reason instead of producing the wrong output.

View documents in the app

Office files preview faithfully wherever they appear — the Files page, file links in chat, and collection attachment fields:

  • Word keeps its real formatting — headings, tables, emphasis — rather than being flattened to plain text.
  • PowerPoint pages through every slide.
  • Spreadsheets display as tables with sheet tabs.
  • PDF uses your browser's native viewer, which already does selection, search, and zoom well.

To comment on an uploaded file, share it, or publish it, keep it as an artifact with Save to Artifacts.

Markdown and text files open in the document editor instead, which has its own autosave and versioning behavior. For uploading and organizing files generally, see Files.
